Chapter 3: Beware The Darkness.

Silver burned in a fine blaze, burning it's way into the fine color of blue mixed with greenish-purple... as simple white feathers came into view, some with a faint sparkle of scarlet hue... life had it's simple rule... you must survive a requested duel... a friendly fight dose not come often... still, be prepared... cause only time... knows what shall happen...

The temple boy watched the battle from a far safe place, still in his face a few locks annoyed him, they kept going in his face as the ancient beast ran like the wind, whooshing past the dragon of water, as it sowed it's self through the waters like a single needle though the crystal substance named water... the dragon spread it's wings in a great arc of fine whiteness, as it waved it's wings in an arc of madness, passing wind with her wings, forcing the grate strip face to clutch the nearest tree he could find, preventing him self from being blown away... the temple boy held the spear with his hands clutching hard, as his hair flew backwards with the massive wind, then slowly stopping, he felt the need of battling next to his partner... just sitting there and watching a battle was simply nothing to his delight!

In a single leap, the ancient beast dug his long talons into the white wings passing them as he flew in the air... the dragon gave a scream of pain as it swirled around it self, as a crimson splash stained it's great white wings of wind, then it flashed it's blue eyes at the beast, charging towards him, mouth wide open with an ear shredding shrike, the beast couldn't take it and shut his eyes in pain, ears flattening against his orange mane... only did the lashing he got on his back from her tail got his attention, a sour pain went up his back, as something crimson seeped down... growling grew loud in his throat, as a rumble broke rumbling it's own song in his chest, tail lashing, teeth shown, mouth slightly opened... the dragon smiled, it's has been so long since she had fought any one, much to the great Lord Nagatobimaru's own delight of battling with her... they paused as they both took a single moment to catch their breath...
"You are a very talented fighter, Lord Miya!" exclaimed the ancient beast, he was panting as a crackling of thunder enveloped him with it's own blaze of blue and white, then quickly sent a single streak of his lightning towards her... she dodged it, hovering above him, as her wings spread wide, jaws open with a surprised squeak, then tail lashed at him as he dodged it him self...
"You are quite as talented your self my Lord!!" she grind, as she settled her self above the great waters, then panting still she just flew up into the tree tops above, awaiting her attack, the great beast stood there... silence grew around them... slightly blinking, the beast only rose his head slowly and carefully, mouth closing, thunder stopping, claws digging into the dirt and he just stayed silent... he flattened his ears a little, then rose them trying to catch any type of noise...

Then a scream of a thousand broken screams pooped his ears out, not to forget the temple boy's! His head was hit by a hard blow as some thing warm wrapped him till his chin, hands seeking freedom, he clutched it, not thinking, he hit his feet to the ground and flew backwards, sending him self and the dragon sprawling in some dangling vines...

Both panting, trying to catch their breath... slowly, they eyed each other... they both were tangled in the dangling vines up side down... then silence grew there for a brief moment, only to be broken by a crazy husky laugh from an orange beast and a slight giggle of a laugh from the water dragon...
"We could do this forever, don't you think my Lord?" the dragon female exclaimed... "Yeah!" he whispered as she eyed him up-side-down, his orange mane sprawling in his face, arms, legs and body all wrapped up in vines, as her own wings were tangled in the vines, as well as her own long slim body... they both struggled to free them selves, still laughing, the water dragon had no trouble getting loose, cause her wings simply stretched in a slippery way out from the dangling vines, leaving the beast trying to rip it up, but it wasn't easy...
"Don't rip them my lord, you're only going to get your self tangled up even worse!! Try to slip your way out!" She said...
"Easy for you to say!!" complained the beast "Dammit!! How do you get outta this?" he questioned... after a single blink, the beast eyed the smirking temple boy -up-side-down- with the spear on his shoulder, as a smile widened finding its way to the humans face... a numbing feeling went down the beasts spine...
"What are you smirking at??" he cried in embarrassment...
"Need any help?" the temple boy questioned with a smirking voice, teeth tips showing, a single long black lock came into his view, but he only brushed it back...
"...No..." murmured the beast.... Actually he could've used a hand in his problem, but simply not from the boy! Legs kicking, arms twitching, he just wanted to get him self at least somehow free, it didn't work!! He tried to bite off the vines, but they were like rubber, and wrapped them selves around his muzzle! Hardly he spit them out, they tasted awful, just AWFUL!!!
"Dammit!! How can any one get outta 'this' mess?" he cried in total irritation, thunder crackling in anger in the whiteness of his forelock, in a rage of madness he started yelling, cursing as many words as possible known to human/beast kind, hissing and growling, till he was outta breath and felt dizzy for being up side down a little bit too long!! He felt a cold splashing of water in his face...
"Relax To...err I mean... Lord Nagatobimaru... getting pissed of at a few plants wont get you loose you know!" said the boy with a cocked eye brow... then gave a slight grin at his partners worn out, also dizzy, orange stripped face... "Are you *sure* you don't want my help?" he smiled...
"... sh*t!! I'm doing just fine you lousy little Brat!!" he scolded, eyes slightly closed, the blood pressure got to his head and he really felt like needing some help...
"Lord Nagatobimaru... maybe you should let the beast barrier help you! Staying like this any longer might kill you!" the water dragon had a certain concern towards the orange beast, which got the temple boy's attention...
"Lord Miya... if I may ask..." the beasts eyes snapped wide open "...how long have you known Lord Nagatobimaru?" the boy was eyeing the beast reaction towards the question...
"IT'DOESN'T'MATTER!!" quickly squealed the beast; he sounded totally embarrassed, with his eyes wide open, teeth showing as his muzzle slightly twitching trying to fake a smile, still up side down, legs and arms twitching again trying to set them selves free... "It really doesn't matter as it is just a dumb old thing that's in the past that none of us should even bother talking about!!" said the beast in a single breath, a bit more calmly now, still, heart thumping, head feeling dizzy and cold, eyes closed... he was passing out, and he knew it... only then did some thing wrap it's self around him, it felt warm and tender compared to the cold splash in his body, as he heard the water dragon whisper to the temple boy to try and snap the vines freeing the beast... but then he kind of went cold as he found him self in a doze...

Some where else... on an Island in the middle of the ocean, was a plane, on one side were all it's passengers tied up watched over by a few of the evil men, as it was night fall, a few camp fires set up, as on the other side of the plane was a cage with angry eyes flashing in ivy green, being pissed off by a muscled man, as Mayuko found her self tied up to a chair near by at the cage... the man was out side the cage, he had a lasso and was lashing the female to obey by his commands, but she only answered his commands with a growl or a hiss, maybe even both, some other times with a hand full of claws gnashing his feet or any thing near her...
"God-Damn bi***!! You'll obey me you like it or not!!" he cried in anger, he was easily pissed off, so was she! Then quickly lashed her on the face, she flinched and fell, he made a cut down her muzzle, as blood slightly seeped down, as he used the lasso to wrap it around her leg, yanking it hard, slamming her to the cages bars... she was huge but he was awful strong as well...
"Please stop it!!" cried the human girl, as a few eyes fixed them selves on her, she didn't care, not as much as she cared about the female... the fat rich guy was watching them also, quietly, one man walked to Mayuko with a husky slang like laugh...
"Forget it honey! When the boss puts his eyes on a dame he doesn't let go!!" then craned his head towards the fat guy... "And you fat-so!! Why aren't you protecting your treasure box?" the man questioned.
"I can always find my self another one!" simply said the fat guy shoulders shrugging "although catching this one wasn't easy..." he concluded...

The fat rich guy found him self caught by the muscled man by the neck lice, the mans eyes burned with anger, as the fat guy just squirmed in fright...
"So? You don't care if we ended up killing it, eh fat boy?" the man snarled, shaking the fat guy in his clutch... but then, some thing fell with a simple plop on the soft sands of the island, catching the muscled mans attention... the fat guy only gasped, his eyes went wide open, looking at the muscled man picking it up... "What's this thing?"
"Nothing!!!" quickly and worriedly said the fat guy... the thing was like a remote of some kind, it had an on/off button with a knob, titled 'low-medium-high' in a bow like line... lifting a single finger, the muscled man was attending to turn the thing on, only to be brought up to the fat guys yelp...
"Don't touch that!!" the fat guy pleaded... "Take him back to the rest or the crew!" the muscled man wouldn't listen... as the human girl watched the fat guy warn the muscled man about using the remote, she turned towards the man again as he examined the remote suspiciously...

Switching it on... a shrieking yelp was heard, craning his head around towards the cage, all the men there could see the beast sprawling on her back, squirming in the cage with electric shocks zapping her by the metal cuffs she had on her neck... her claws were trying to rip of the cuffs, but no can do! It was hurting her... looking back on the remote, the muscled man quickly turned it off... the shock stopped, and the female slowly rested as she stopped screaming her lungs out, panting in pain, gasping for air, claws on the cuffs still trying to wreck them off...

"So!!" the muscled man said with a smile... "That's how he kept her quiet all this time eh? Torture!!" he gave a wicked grin, put the knob on high, then turned the thing on again, giving her a few more doses of entire pain...
"STOP IT!!" cried the human girl "you might kill her!!" she pleaded... she couldn't do any thing else about it... till suddenly a line of tape struck her face closing her mouth...
"Put a cork in it you little brat!" one of the men scolded, then turned to the muscled man "show that thing who's the boss here boss!!"

The female beast went berserk!! Slamming her self against the cage's walls... err, sorry, correction... The cages bars!! The human girl couldn't do any thing any more and found her self sobbing... the muscled man, walked to the cage after turning the shocker on and off a few times, causing pain to the beast constantly... grabbing his lasso, then opening the cage's doors, some how, he know the pass word!! The female was still in the cage squirming... he turned it off and left her catch her breath... then before she could even take a blink of an eye; he lashed her with the lasso on the back...
"C'mon you lousy bi***!! Get up!! It's time to have a little fun!!" he grinned wickedly...

Some where near at the waters beyond, a little water serpent was watching, it eyes the human girl, then the female beast, then with two or three more appearing from behind he gave a nod, as they all took a dive back in the water heading to where they all know they should...

"Yaw!! Watch it!! That stuff stings!!" cried the huge dark brown beast as Asako took care of the small cuts on his face... they all were back at the temple, as Oji-san and Ann watched Asako take care of the new guest, while they sat on the sofa...
"Quit your whining! It's not so deep, still it needs to be taken care of!" she scolded... she lightly patted his hurt skin with a little cotton smelling like alcohol, he only jerked his head back, as pain snapped his face... "Ow!!" he moaned... then simply raising a hand full of claws to his face, still not touching it...
"Don't do that!!" the girl scolded again, a hand on his pushing the beast's hand down "buster, you whine more that an orange ass I know!!" she whined almost laughing...
"Asako... do you think Tora and Ushio are alright?" asked the little one, her father turned to her as the human girl did as well...
"I'm not sure Ann... but I'm sure as soon as they find Mayuko they'll be back again!" comforting the little one was the only choice she had... looking at the priest, he only gave a nod...
"Ann..." whispered the beast "did... your mother tell you why she left... or where she was going?" he had a soft voice when he whispered...
"... I dunno..." whispered the little one... slightly leaning against the priests side, as he simply lied a hand on her tucking her into him... eyeing her father, he seemed frozen, but he probably got used to this by now, hadn't he?
"You know... we still haven't known you name!" said the priest... trying to brake the beast's thoughts, obviously the beast was a little absent minded...
"Uh, me?" he blinked at the priest, then the human girl, then his daughter... "I'm... Nightmare..." he shallowly said it... "My mate's name is Shadow..." he concluded...
"Dad..." whispered the little one "where were 'you' before mom vanished?" she questioned... he just blinked...
"Me? Like I've always been doing honey! Hunting water serpents!!" he gave a single grin, teeth tips slightly showing...
"Oh... so you didn't give a darn what mom told you, right!" she slightly scolded... "Dad! You've been spending more time hunting those stupid serpents than the time you spend with us!! Mom and I are both fed up with it!!" she slightly raised her voice, standing on four legs still on the sofa... her father flinched... he had just been scolded by his own daughter!!
"All what mom and I wanted was to have your normal self back..." the little one whimpered, sobbing as she was still frowning, eyes burning blue as her silver locks crackled in thunder...

The human girl figured it out... her father spent more time out doors than in doors and that really bothered his wife, err, mate! And now the mother is missing and she's nowhere to be found!! And so is Mayuko, Tora and Ushio... come to think of it... =0.0= idea!!
"Hey... um, Nightmare! Can you... have you ever carried any one on your back before?" questioned Asako, she had a plane... the beast simply blinked at her, thinking 'what kind of question is that suppose to be?' with a cocked eye brow, and a cocked head full of puzzlement...

Some where in the dark, some thing glowed in light red... with legs or hands tangling around... sand swirling in a single circle... it's dark and damp... nothing but bones scattered here and there... some had tattered clothing, some were just bones, around the sand pit that came into view, some thing sank in deep in it's hole... waiting... as it hissed into the darkness...

A soft breeze blew softly against a mane of an orange beast; it smelled like salty sea, with a simple smell of some thing sweet and scaly... Tora opened his eyes to some thing wide, blue and stretching to the horizon... with many wonderfully sparkling jewels designing its massive sky "Hey fur-ball! It's about time you woke up! Are you okay?" a human voice questioned, soft and almost whispering, turning his head a bit around, the beast could see the brat leaning against his side, slightly he had his hand on the beasts head feeling the white forelock, fingers slightly forking a few of the beasts dark orange locks back... Ushio was sitting on his butt, legs in the water as he had his shoes off, holding them in his lap, and the spear in the other, his feet above the water, hair short and normal!! He was back in human form on the dragons back!!!!
The ancient beast still felt a little dizzy, and only after a deep breath did he figure out that they were in the middle of the sea in the middle of the night on the back of Lady, err... Lord Miya... she was flat enough for them to sit on, as she slightly swam-like-flew over the waters... half her body was in water, the other front half that they were sitting on wasn't! Her white wings had their scarlet tips slightly touching the waters of the sea every now and then...
"What's going on?" questioned the beast in a tired almost slurring voice... then cleared his throat...
"Lord Miya's minions found Mayuko..." said the boy almost whispering with a faint smile "and check this out... they said that there was a female beast with her..." he frowned "both being tortured!!" his face went firm... he had the spear, slightly in his lap, not touching the dragon, still not out of his grip...
"Oh..." simply said the beast, rubbing his forehead with careful two forefingers... his head kind of hurt, and he kind of felt sick...
"Some thing wrong fuzz ball?" questioned Ushio, slightly leaning a little eyeing the beast's tired face "you don't look so good!" he laid a hand on the beasts forehead "your not sea sick now, are you?" he questioned... obviously, Tora 'was' sea sick!!
"I think I'm gonna vomit!!" whispered the beast almost slurring... hand supporting his dizzy head, the other feeling his throat, a bit chocking as the temple boy hesitated...
"Hey!! Not here you idiot!! Umm...<!!> Uhh..." he slightly crouched, rubbing the beasts back, some where around the shoulders, if he could figure out where they were through he beasts thick mane!! Trying his best to help him feel better... it kind of worked... "Feeling better?" the boy didn't want to end up watching the beast throwing up his lunch...back wards!! Tora gulped some thing in then just gave a nod, eyes closed, as his hand just covered them... a few of his short white locks covered his face...

"Is every thing alright?" asked the water dragon, feeling all that movement on her back had her worried...
"Uh yeah... Lord Miya... how long is it to the isle? I don't think Tora could take it!!" slightly blinking at the beast, a smirk found it way there!! "I think he's sea sick!" the dragon just laughed a little...
"Same old Nagatobimaru!! <Laugh> never changed!!" she slightly laughed a bit louder now "don't worry, only a short swim left!! We'll be there soon..." she was still looking forward soaring above the blue sea water, almost flying...

Eyes almost open with a blurry view, the ancient beast felt kind of weary... head spinning, eyes cant focus, fur kind of damp and salty smelling, with a dreadful sour-like-acid taste going up and down in his throat... only thing keeping him a bit comfy was the tender rubbing on his back, it was relaxing, it made him feel much better... Tora was so relaxed, he didn't even bother looking back... if he did, he probably would have flinched right off the dragon, if he found out that the temple boy was the one making him feel better... slightly the beast went dozing into a quick nap, the temple boy simply smiled, his partner was not the type that liked wet places... maybe that's why he doesn't like the beach!! He simply rested him self over the sleeping beast, only the front part of him, sinking into the beasts thick orange mane, the heart beats of the beast were kind of fast, maybe cause he wasn't feeling good! 'Never mind that... we're going to find you Mayuko, and were gonna help you... I promise...' thought the boy as he just gazed into the great blue ocean filling his view, as beautiful starts above sparkled in their own magic, with no music but the beasts heart beats filling his ears... he closed his eyes... feeling the sensation around him... soaring above the water, his bare feet felt relaxed, the slight tinkling of water splashing them every now and then made his feet cool down after being warmed up by his tennis shoes... the spear it self was rather quiet... it only hummed in a seldom song, as it was settled in his lap... Toras thick, thick warm mane... Ushio felt a little lazy, as the sleeping spell found its way into him... eyes closing... but only then did he get the signal to stay awake...

They slowly slowed down, he knew it after his bare feet went into the cold waters, scaring the need of sleep out of his eyes... looking a little up, he saw a few lights in the distance... they were camp fires, as the dragon slightly stopped, still she was floating above water...
"Beast Barrier... I can't go any further... water is my limit, land isn't... I'm a fried I can only get you till here, can you carry on the rest of the path by your self?" the dragon had her limits, and the temple boy respected that...
"Thank you Lord Miya... but I have a question... can you go around the isle first? I want to make sure about it's surroundings!" said the temple boy...
"As you wish!" then slowly the ripples on the water curved within her movements, as she swam soundlessly around the Island...

Swimming briefly to one side, the dragon went around the Island... clearly to the temple boys discovery, the Island had a beach on one side, and a jagged cliff on the other... but as they went beyond the cliff, almost finishing their circle around the island, they reached the place where the plane was... the ancient beast was still dozing deep in dreams on the dragons back "if I'm not back in an hour, wake up the old fuzz ball, okay!?" with a slight laugh, the dragon gave a nod, so the temple boy simply slipped off the dragon, slightly making a splash in the cool ocean water, almost catching the attention of some watcher men... swimming a little closer, this is what he heard:

"Hey, did you hear something?"
"No! Why? Did you?"
"Well, yeah... I thought I heard some thing... let's go check it out!"
"What?? In your dreams! What if it ended up being that crazy beast eh? I don't wanna end up having my head blown up like the guy down the storage rooms door!"
"Well I don't wanna go by my self!! I don't want to end up like the fat guy!! Did you see how she ripped his scalp open??"
"Yeach... tell me about it!! The minute she escaped from that prison cell he was the first one to rip apart... it's a miracle how the boss was able to escape her bites!!"
"The boss lost a leg for crying out loud..."
"I still don't know how she managed to live that explosion! When the cuff around her neck blew up, I thought her head blew up to smithereens with it!!"
"Yeah so did I!! Only her neck was burned though..."
"One bizarre thing..."
"What?"
"That cute little young lady... you don't think she took her so she could eat her do you?"
"Maybe she took her as a hostage?!"
"<Silence>"
"What!? It was just an idea!"
"Never mind... lets just keep on patrolling..."
"Yeah, I guess your right!"

The two men went back to watch, as Ushio found his way to a near by rock, it was big and wide enough for him to slip behind and drip with out any one noticing him, then slightly propping the spear to one shoulder, careful for it not to come into any body's view... but how can he hide some thing 7 feet tall??

Taking a single glimpse around, he quickly ran swiftly to a near by bush, then rolled around him self, hiding behind a bush... 'So, the female beast got Mayuko and ran off somewhere? I must find her <pause> but, not with out Tora!! Dang it! Might as well go looking for her until he wakes up!! <Pause> when he wakes up!! <Shrug> O' well!'

Slightly rising his head in the darkness, the spear hummed catching his attention, the temple boy swung it around, first a little north, then slightly going into a circle around him self, but at a path going upwards, the spears humming went a little high... it was showing him the way to go, so he just followed... frowning, spear clutched in both hands, adrenaline running through his blood stream, walking deep into the darkness of the tangling trees, till his figure blended with the darkness as it covered him whole...

A shadow within shadows found its way in the darkness... ivy green eyes slowly floated in the darkness, a faint smell of something furry being burned, as a human hand clutched a body covered with fur, heartbeats thumping within the human body, as a single hand full of claws, with cuffs on, tenderly held it "stay close!" it softly whispered... the human girl gave a nod, as their surroundings slightly came into light... they were at a small lake, no trees covering it, with an almost wide paddock designed with flowers in colors and scents surrounding it, the thick trees above have found an opening for them to see the sky and it's gorgeous diamonds... the female beast gave a resting sigh, she has lost the cuff around her neck, still the ones cuffing her wrists and legs were still there...
"Shadow, don't you think we went far enough?" said Mayuko as she loosened her clutch from the female beasts shoulder, hand on her heart, she looked pale, eyes slightly closing in tiredness...
"Yes... I suppose your right child..." the female beast looked around, then holding the human girls hand, they walked to a near by tree near the edge of the water, under a 'C' like curved rock, providing shelter and a quiet nesting spot...
"Child, you look beat... let's rest here, and tomorrow we shall go on with our path!" said the beast as she sprawled under the stone, giving the girl a sign to rest on her... "Staying close together will keep us both warm!" smiled the beast...

The female beast was kind and nice with the human girl... although Mayuko didn't want to sleep, after all, she had seen the beast rip apart a few men right in front of her before helping her escape her ropes!! That gave her a lot of sickening ideas... but to the beast's eye view, she just wanted to survive, and to thank the human girl for trying to help her, although the human thought that she really didn't do any thing really!!
"Some thing wrong child?" questioned the beast as Mayuko settled her self on the beast, head snuggled in her light brown fur, between her neck and chest, avoiding the burned fur, the female beasts hand almost embracing her, keeping her warm...
"... No... nothing!" the human said almost in sleep, she was really tired, they had been running then walking, climbing up, then running down into the forest deeper and deeper for hours, and that really wore her out, mentally and physically!!
"I'll take the first watch, you gain some rest!" softly said the female, gently kissed the human on the forehead, then brushed a few of her silky brown hair away from her face, but Mayuko was fast asleep by then, and was too tired to stay awake... the female simply smiled, then just looked out at the clear waters scanning... watching as the night went deep into darkness...

Far away, a dark brown figure was flying in the sky, un-seen to any one!! It slowly landed in an almost opened filed, catching its breath as a human girl and a little beast skipped off...
"I <Pant> hope this <pant> is worth <pant> all the trouble <pant> I'm outta breath!!" then dropped it's head down, eyes closed, breath panting, looking around, it saw a little river like stream, and simply walked to it wanting a drink...
"Maybe we should take a brake Asako... dad isn't used on traveling for so long!!" said the little beast as she turned to the human girl, then to her father...
"Yeah I guess your right..."said the girl almost whispering to her self "funny... we combed the whole area and still no sign of them... I wonder where they went!" she slurred... craning her head to the beast, he was in a crouching like position "hey browny! What's up?" she questioned...
"Hush!" he simply hissed... he was stalking a water serpent slightly drinking from he waters beyond a few bushes...
"Dad please, not now!! We don't have time for this!!" the little one whimpered, "We gotta go look for mom, remember!!"
"Later honey..." he whispered, almost to him self more than to his daughter...
"What's going on?" whispered Asako, kind of puzzled of the huge brown beasts reactions...
"Dad's current mania for waters serpents has got to his mind again!! There's no way we can get him to stop hunting now!!" whimpered the little one, and then slightly walked towards him brushing her self against his feet "Dad C'mon! We gotta go find mom!!" he didn't answer, she yanked his tail "Dad!!!" he didn't move "Dad C'mon, let's go!!" she pulled with all her might, only to figure out that she was slightly kicked back by his heels... teeth snapping in her face, eyes flashing in yellow...
"I told you later we'll do it later!!" he hissed scolding, only to be rewarded with a kick in the ass!! Cursing he turned around towards the human girl "why did you do that for?"
"Don't be such a jerk!! Do you wanna find your mate or not?" scolded the girl almost yelling, face to face, eye to eye again they glared at each other, but then the beast look towards the water serpent who saw them and ran off!!
"Dammit! Its getting away!!" cried the beast and quickly sprung over the girls running after the water serpent before it got to the water and caught it by the tail!! "Heh!! Snack time!!" but before he could put it in his mouth, Asako snatched it from his claw!! "Hey!! That's mine!!" he snarled!!
"Sheez!! No wonder you and your mate broke up! You can't even control your self!!"
